The Department of English and Kelly Writers House present a conversation between author Jennifer Egan and Dennis Culhane of the School of Social Policy and Practice, who studies homelessness and assisted housing policy. They will discuss how social science research and investigative journalism can combine to consider what storytelling can be done to capture the present situation of homelessness.

Excellence in Graduate Teaching Reception

The vice provost for education and the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Innovation celebrate the Penn Prize for Excellence in Teaching by Graduate Students. The reception will honor the 10 winners in departments ranging from Anthropology to Neuroscience.

Mark Frazier Lloyd

Director, University Archives and Records Center.

For almost 35 years, Mark Frazier Lloyd has run the University’s Archives and Records Center, which houses more than 250 years’ worth of historical documentation about Penn. This includes books, photos, and ledgers about the 1918 flu pandemic and Philadelphia at the time. Lloyd can speak to what was happening in the city leading up to the influenza outbreak, particularly at the two local health-care institutions of the day, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia General Hospital.
