Fierce play earns Sasha Stephens Ivy Player of the Week

The senior forward scored a goal in each of Penn’s two wins in the Navy Women’s Soccer Classic.

Sasha Stephens, a senior forward on the Penn women’s soccer team, has been selected Ivy League Player of the Week.

Playing in the Navy Women’s Soccer Classic over the weekend in Annapolis, Md., Stephens scored a goal in the opening 10 minutes versus Delaware on Friday and Navy on Sunday.

The Quakers shut out the Blue Hens 2-0. Stephens scored off a corner kick in the fifth minute.

Penn downed Navy 4-2. Stephens, assisted by junior midfielder Emily Sands, scored a goal in the eighth minute. 

A native of La Mesa, Calif., Stephens has scored in three of the Red & Blue’s first five games. She leads the team in points (6) and goals (3).

The 4-1 Quakers play UMBC at home on Friday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m., and take on Towson in Maryland on Sunday.
