By The Numbers: Doug Glanville

The former Philadelphia Phillie, recruited to Penn as a pitcher, developed into a top hitting prospect and outfielder.

Doug Glanville

Alumnus Doug Glanville, a former standout outfielder on the Penn baseball team (1989-91) who played in the majors for nine years, returned to the University this semester to teach a course in the Annenberg School for Communication.

Recruited mostly as a pitcher, Glanville says he came to Penn because the coaches would allow him to also play outfield. He trained as a pitcher for two years before he switched to outfielder and became one of the top prospects in the nation.

In 1991, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the 12th pick in the first round of the MLB Draft. He is a member of the Penn Baseball Hall of Fame.

In this edition of By The Numbers, Penn Today rounds the bases and steals home with Doug Glanville.
