  • CDC awards $2 million to Penn to combat antimicrobial resistance in Southern Africa

    The grant will support Penn’s work, in collaboration with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, at multiple locations across the country through the Botswana-UPenn partnership, a 20-year collaboration between Penn’s Center for Global Health and the University of Botswana and the Botswana Ministry of Health and Wellness.

  • Penn Medicine awarded $14 million NIH grant to apply CAR T immunotherapies to match more patients in need of kidney transplants

    The team will launch a clinical trial harnessing synthetic chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells to use with patients for whom a compatible kidney cannot be found due to preexisting antibodies against potential donors.

    A national study finds that patients newly diagnosed with advanced cancer did not experience COVID-related treatment delays or changes in the type of treatment they received, in contrast to earlier studies that identified delays across the cancer care continuum.

  • 25 community programs receive grants through Penn Medicine CAREs

    The grants are awarded to employees based on the quality of the program, the needs of the community it aims to assist, and potential overall impact. Two initiatives to improve gun safety through the use of gun locks and education received funding this quarter, along with 23 additional projects, including housing initiatives, cancer screenings, and diabetic senior care.

  • Penn Medicine’s chief of Hematology-Oncology named president-elect of American Society of Clinical Oncology

    Lynn M. Schuchter, the C. Willard Robinson Professor and Chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology in the Perelman School of Medicine has been elected president for the 2023-24 term. She will take office in June 2022 following the ASCO Annual Meeting, and serve in that capacity for a year before assuming the presidency.

  • New Penn GSE scholarship to open doors to future teachers and leaders

    Through the Penn GSE Empowerment Through Education Scholarship Program, Penn GSE will provide significant funding for several students in the Mid-Career Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership and the Urban Teaching Apprenticeship Program each year, awarding the scholarship to individuals who would not otherwise be able to consider enrolling in those programs.

  • The department of Landscape Architecture announces The McHarg Fellowship

    The McHarg Fellowship is a new $75,000 award given by The Ian L. McHarg Center for Urbanism and Ecology to an emerging voice in landscape architecture and its related fields. The Fellowship will be awarded competitively on an annual basis and the fellow is expected to be in residence at Weitzman full-time for one academic year from August through May.
