Penn Joins National College Recycling Competition
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania has joined with more than 100 colleges and universities in RecyleMania, a friendly competition to help reduce waste. From Jan. 28 to April 1, campuses across the country will compete to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables and the least amount of trash per capita. There will also be a competition for the highest recycling rate.

Penn Engineers Create Carbon Nanopipettes That Are Smaller Than Cells and Measure Electric Current
PHILADELPHIA –- University of Pennsylvania engineers and physicians have developed a carbon nanopipette thousands of times thinner than a human hair that measures electric current and delivers fluids into cells. Researchers developed this tiny carbon-based tool to probe cells with minimal intrusion and inject fluids without damaging or inhibiting cell growth.

University of Pennsylvania Web Site Monitors Presidential Candidates' Campaign Pledges
PHILADELPHIA – The Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania has launched a nonpartisan Web site devoted to monitoring and analyzing government-reform proposals made by the 2008 presidential candidates. TheNextGovernment.com (www.TheNextGovernment.com) is an effort to stimulate public discussion about the most significant challenges and issues facing the federal government.

The future of medicine

A peak at PIK
The Penn Faculty Senate’s third annual Founder’s Day Symposium will address a theme near and dear to Penn President Amy Gutmann’s heart: The integration of knowledge. “Aristotle’s Brain: Integrating Knowledge in the 21st Century” will take place at 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18 at the Clare M. Fagin Hall at the School of Nursing.
