Arthur Ross Gallery to Feature Medieval, Renaissance Manuscripts from Free Library of Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania's Arthur Ross Gallery will present "Treasured Pages: Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts from the Free Library of Philadelphia" beginning Oct. 13 and running through Jan. 6. The exhibition features 43 codices and single leaves from one of the most significant collections in the United States. The exhibition is a rare opportunity to view hidden treasures that provide a glimpse into medieval intellectual and artistic culture.

$20M gift to SEAS will boost nano
A Penn alumnus recently gave a very large gift to support the study of the very small. In August, it was announced that Krishna Singh gave $20 million to the School of Engineering and Applied Science—the single largest gift in the school’s history—to create the Krishna P. Singh Center for Nanotechnology. The facility is slated to be 100,000 square feet and will serve as a place for multi-disciplinary research, education and innovation for the campus and the region.

Penn Endowment Grows to $6.6 billion, a 20.2 % Return on Investments That Is Strongest in 10 Years
PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania's endowment returned 20.2 percent for the fiscal year that ended June 30, bringing its total market value to $6.6 billion. The endowment has grown more than 65% during the past three years thanks to strong investment returns, new gifts and the reinvestment of reserves. The endowment registered its best performance in a decade this year. Returns were strong across the board with solid gains in domestic and international equities, emerging markets, absolute return, private equity, real estate and natural resources.

Scientists at Penn Veterinary Medicine School Report New Strategy to Create Genetically Modified Animals
PHILADELPHIA- Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine have demonstrated the potential of a new strategy for genetic modification of large animals. The method employs a harmless gene therapy virus that transfers a genetic modification to male reproductive cells, which is then passed naturally on to offspring.
