Penn and Brandywine Realty Trust Announce Collaborative Redevelopment of U.S. Postal Service Facilities in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania has completed its acquisition of various U.S. Postal Service facilities in the University City sub-market of Philadelphia, and will collaborate with Brandywine Realty Trust in a comprehensive redevelopment of the properties located on 30th Street between Market and Walnut streets.

Penn's Irma Elo Named Chair of the Board of Scientific Counselors for the National Center for Health Statistics
PHILADELPHIA -- Irma T. Elo, associate professor of sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, has been appointed chair of the Board of Scientific Counselors for the National Center for Health Statistics. NCHS is America's principal health statistics agency. NCHS collects data from birth and death records, medical records and interview surveys and through direct physical exams and laboratory testing to compile statistical information to guide actions and policies to improve public health.

Cancer Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania Discover What Makes Lymphomas Tick
PHILADELPHIA -- University of Pennsylvania researchers and their colleagues at the Wistar Institute and University of Oxford have discovered the molecular process by which the PAX5 protein, necessary for lymphocyte development, promotes the growth of common lymphomas, thereby unveiling a potential new target in the fight against cancer.

Art Spiegelman, Lynne Sharon Schwartz, Jerome Rothenberg Named Kelly Writers House Fellows
PHILADELPHIA -- The community of writers and artists at the University of Pennsylvania's Kelly Writers House has named Art Spiegelman, Lynne Sharon Schwartz and Jerome Rothenberg Writers House Fellows for spring 2008. Artist and graphic novelist Spiegelman will visit Penn Feb. 18-19, writer Schwartz March 24-25 and poet Rothenberg April 28-29. Each fellow's visit will begin with a 6:30 p.m. Monday reading at Kelly Writers House, 3805 Locust Walk, followed by a 10 a.m. Tuesday brunch and an interview-conversation there the next morning, webcast live.

Richard Hodges Named Director of University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology
PHILADELPHIA -- Richard Hodges has been named the Williams Director of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Hodges will join Penn Oct. 1 from his position as director of the Institute of World Archaeology at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom.

Philadelphia Grade School Students to Launch Rockets at Penn...In the Name of Science, Of Course

Bioengineers at University of Pennsylvania Devise Nanoscale System to Measure Cellular Forces
PHILADELPHIA -- University of Pennsylvania researchers have designed a nanoscale system to observe and measure how individual cells react to external forces. By combining microfabricated cantilevers and magnetic nanowire technology to create independent, nanoscale sensors, the study showed that cells respond to outside forces and demonstrated a dynamic biological relationship between cells and their environment.
