New associate and vice dean for Arts and Sciences

    Rebecca Bushnell

  • Rebecca Bushnell, Professor of English, was appointed Associate Dean for Arts and Letters in a newly reorganized dean's office of the School of Arts and Sciences, replacing Associate Dean for the Humanities and Social Sciences Eugene Narmour. Narmour stepped down following a minor stroke suffered just after the beginning of the new year. Bushnell's responsibilities as Associate Dean will include the oversight of Classical Studies, English, Folklore and Folklife, German, History of Art, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Romance Languages and Slavic Languages.
       Bushnell now serves as chair of the SAS Committee on Undergraduate Education and previously chaired the Graduate Group in English from 1991-1994 and the University Council Committee on Libraries from 1995-1996.

  • Michael J. Mandl has been appointed Vice Dean for Finance and Administration in the School of Arts and Sciences as of Feb. 2. Mandl comes to Penn from Duke University, where he served as Director of Academic Financial Services, Budgets and Systems in the Office of the Provost. He will serve as the chief administrative and financial officer for SAS with oversight responsibilities for budget, computing, facilities and administrative staff personnel matters.

  • Omar H. Blaik, former Associate Vice President for Facilities Management, was named Vice President for Facilities Services and Contract Management, effective Jan. 5. His responsibilities include overseeing the Trammell Crow contract and managing the facilities functions that will remain with the University after April 1.
