For the last year, Julie Hontz, a virtual case manager for Penn Medicine at Home’s SOAR program, has been helping elderly patients go home from the hospital earlier by assessing patients’ needs and support in the home. Hontz’s role is to make calls with the patients and caretakers detect any issues before they become impediments to healing at home.

PennPraxis Design Fellows will lead an interactive virtual course for 150 Fresh Air Fund youth ages 14-17 in July and August 2020. The course, Fresh Air Everywhere: Virtual Design Studio, will be one offering to youth in the Fresh Air program in lieu of the traditional summer camp experience this summer.

Shortly after the pandemic reached Philadelphia, Benjamin Abramoff and Franklin Caldera began seeing patients who had recovered from COVID-19 in their acute inpatient rehabilitation unit. Recognizing the demand for a more coordinated, comprehensive approach for these patients, Abramoff and Caldera collaborated with colleagues to spearhead the launch of Penn’s Post-COVID Recovery Clinic.

In The Journal of School Nursing, Catherine C. McDonald of Penn Nursing and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia addresses a number of challenges that will likely need to be met and how school nurses are positioned to keep children healthy, safe, and ready to learn.
