It's Bobby in the lobby
Bob Blake (C'72), "also known as "Bobby in the Lobby," plays Wednesday evenings at Penn's Faculty Club. The all-smiles alum calls the lounge his home away from home -- he plays from 5:30 p.m. till "whenever they bounce me out." While an undergrad, Blake says he wrote and produced the first musical ever presented at the then-newly-opened Zellerbach Theater.

A dentist's working vacation
Each year for her vacation, Karen Miller, a staff dentist at Penn's Dental Care Center, heads down to tropical Brazil for two weeks. Instead of soaking up rays on the beaches of Rio, though, she provides dental care for orphans and the poor in the northeastern coastal city of Fortaleza.

Alzheimer's challenges family fabric
Years ago, as a young woman living on my own, I expected some day to get a phone call telling me that my father had had a heart attack or a stroke. I dreaded that call. It never came. What came instead was Alzheimer's disease. A far more dreadful visitor, it has imposed on my father a steady erosion of all he has been, and taken away a proud identity. My father, the wise man, the leader, the family caretaker, the mensch, now watches the world with a look of bewilderment that breaks my heart.

Undergrad fees rise slightly
Next year's 3.9 percent increase in total undergraduate charges is the smallest in three decades, according to Penn President Judith Rodin. Tuition, fees, room and board will run undergrads $30,490. The figure accelerates the downward trend for tuition and fee hikes at Penn. "Our 3.9 percent increase is slightly below last year's average family income growth rate of approximately 4 percent across the nation," Rodin said.

Penn Offers Cash Incentive to Increase Home ownership in University City
PHILADELPHIA --The University of Pennsylvania has established two new housing initiatives -- including a cash incentive program -- and enhanced its Guaranteed Mortgage Program to increase the number of people buying homes in University City, according to Penn President Judith Rodin.

Karlawish Awarded Brookdale National Fellowship for Aging Research
PHILADELPHIA -- The Brookdale Foundation has awarded University of Pennsylvania Health System physician Jason H.T. Karlawish a fellowship to study the ethics of Alzheimer's Disease clinical research.
