Two Quakers have received high praise from the Ivy League and FCS for their big-time performances over the week.

Third-year forward Allison Kuzyk of the field hockey team has been named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week. She had two shots, two shots on goal, and two goals—including the game-winner—in Penn’s 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Brown on Saturday at Ellen Vagelos Field.

From Vancouver, British Columbia, Kuzyk has started 10 of 12 games and ranks fifth on the team in points (five), fourth in shots (12), and fourth in shots on goal (six). Last year, she was one of just three second-years to play in all 16 games.

Fourth-year defensive back Kendren Smith of the football team has been selected Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week and FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.

In Penn’s 34-14 win over Columbia on Friday, Smith had five tackles, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, an interception, one pass breakup, and one quarterback hurry. His three takeaways led to 14 Quaker points.

Smith, from Charlotte, North Carolina, ranks fourth on the team in tackles (22, 19 solo), first in pass breakups (four), and first in forced fumbles (two) and fumble recoveries (two). He started three games at defensive back last year before he suffered a season-ending injury.

The field hockey team (4-8 overall, 2-2 in conference) clashes with Yale (7-7, 1-3 in conference) on Saturday and Quinnipiac (5-10) on Sunday, both in Connecticut.

For Homecoming, the football team (5-0 overall, 2-0 in Ivy League) takes on Yale (4-1, 2-0 in Ivy League) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Franklin Field. They Quakers are 5-0 for the first time since 2003.
