On May 16, Penn will celebrate the first fully in-person Commencement since the 263rd ceremony in 2019.
Award-winning documentary filmmaker Ken Burns will deliver the address at the 2022 University of Pennsylvania Commencement on Monday, May 16. The announcement was made today by Vice President and University Secretary Medha Narvekar.
The Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony was moved to an online only event in May 2020. Now members of the Class of 2020, as well as graduate members of the Class of 2021, will get an in-person celebration.
On May 15, the University’s NROTC annual Pass in Review ceremony was celebrated aboard the USS New Jersey.
Penn’s 265th Commencement honored students who are defined by their inspiring growth, unrivaled resilience, gracious appreciation, and undoubted ability to create a better future for us all.

Due to COVID-19 public health limitations, the in-person ceremony is only open to graduating seniors. Family, friends, and the community at large are invited to tune in to a live webcast online.
Powell Jobs will deliver the commencement address to the Class of 2021 on Monday, May 17. The announcement was made by Vice President and University Secretary Medha Narvekar.
As in-person festivities have been postponed, Penn live-streamed its “first” 264th Commencement for graduates and their families across the city, nation, and world.
