Historian Richard Beeman’s professional life can be divided into three chapters of academic success. The first was as a teacher and academic scholar: He joined the Penn faculty in 1968 as an assistant professor of history, was promoted to associate professor in 1973 and became a full professor in 1982.
During their years at Penn, students participate in many traditions that allow them to show their school spirit. Some of the rituals have come and gone, and others have evolved into new traditions.
The University community has until Nov. 3 to participate in the annual Penn’s Way charitable giving campaign. Last year, the campaign raised $1.457 million for local charitable organizations.
Penn in the early 1960s was a lonely place for African-American students. There were only about a dozen black students on campus, few, if any, courses on the African-American experience and just one or two black faculty members.
The Daily Pennsylvanian has called her Penn Basketball’s resident “Bubbe.” Other students know her as their academic advisor.
WHAT: Three sessions of the Botswana-UPenn Partnership’s 10th anniversary celebration are open to the public: a student-perspective forum, a research update and an anniversary symposium. All will be held on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
