A festive start to the fall

To start the month of September, WXPN's "World Cafe" looks back at the festivals of summer, starting with 'XPN's own Singer/Songwriter Festival, which took place in July at Penn's Landing. Other "World Cafe" highlights these next two weeks include:

  • Thursday, Sept. 3 Highlights from WXPN's Singer/Songwriter Festival, featuring live performances from Marah, Olu Dara, Southern Culture on the Skids, Huffamoose and Lucinda Williams

  • Friday, Sept. 4 More Singer/Songwriter Festival highlights: performances from Mary Arden Collins, James McMurtry, Patty Griffin, Moxy Fruvous and Francis Dunnery

  • Saturday, Sept. 5 David Dye looks back on the best of Gene Shay's World Cafe Festival Tour reports

  • Tuesday, Sept. 8 Singer/songwriter Kate Campbell drops by the studio to perform work from her latest album, "Visions of Plenty"

  • Wednesday, Sept. 9 Hub performs in the studio

  • Thursday, Sept. 10 MCA-Nashville recording artist Joe Ely stops in to the studio to perform music from his newest release, "Twistin' in the Wind"

  • Friday, Sept. 11 Head back to school with a special World Cafe Swing Dance

  • Monday, Sept. 14 An encore presentation of Jeffrey Gaines' visit to Tongue & Groove Studios

  • Tuesday, Sept. 15 Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys drop by the World Cafe studios

"The World Cafe", which is heard on more than 100 public radio stations nationwide, is produced by WXPN-FM (88.5) and airs locally from 2 to 7 p.m. weekdays. All live appearances air from 3 to 4 p.m.
