They're back to paint the town red - and blue
Of course there's great Quaker football action at Homecoming '98. But that's only a small part of a fun-filled weekend.

Penn's Homecoming celebration began in 1952 as a fall supplement to the annual Alumni Day in the spring, a day for Penn alumni to get together during the football season. This year's two-day Homecoming features more than 30 receptions, discussions, activities and special events for alumni and members of the general Penn community.
Of course, there's still the football game - this year, against the Yale Bulldogs (see day-by-day listings for Saturday, Oct. 31). But there are plenty of other events as well, including the annual Alumni Award of Merit ceremony and gala dinner on Friday, Oct. 30, and numerous receptions, open houses and tours. Many events are open to the entire Penn community. Weekend highlights include:
- The grand opening of a new student center in the former Phi Sigma Kappa house on Locust Walk Friday evening;
- the Locust Walk Mile, a Homecoming tradition now in its third year, on Saturday morning;
- the Homecoming Festival on College Green, featuring live music, face painting, food vendors and games, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday;
- a student-curated exhibition of alumni art at the Kelly Writers House, from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
In addition, students, faculty, staff and friends are also welcome at alumni receptions hosted by the School of Engineering and Applied Science, PennGALA (gay, lesbian and bisexual alumni) and the Black Alumni Society.
