  • Weitzman faculty and students confront climate change, extinction at the Biennale Architettura 2021

    Richard Weller, professor and chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture and co-executive director of The Ian L. McHarg Center for Urbanism and Ecology at Penn, will present three bodies of work as part of the As One Planet exhibition in the Central Pavilion. Winka Dubbeldam, Miller Professor and chair of the Department of Architecture at Penn and director of the Advanced Research and Innovation (ARI) Lab at Penn, serves as one of the creative directors for City X Venice at the Italian Pavilion.

  • Curator Meg Onli wins Inaugural Prize aimed at advancing racial equity in the arts

    The inaugural Figure Skating Prize, aimed at Black artists, curators and contemporary art scholars who are advancing equity and racial justice within the arts, has been awarded to Meg Onli, the Andrea B. Laporte Associate Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art.

  • Making Black lives matter in Philadelphia: Perspectives from the health sciences

    The first talk in a new lecture series featured a keynote address by Eugenia South, who addressed how the COVID-19 pandemic has hit many Black communities the hardest, how the initial vaccine roll-out has disproportionately vaccinated white individuals, and how these crises are linked through the common root cause of structural racism.

  • Caregiver Forums offer solidarity, solace in virtual meetings

    Caregivers across the country found themselves faced with new challenges. The Penn Memory Center began the Caregiver Forums in March 2020 in an attempt to provide caregivers a space where they could talk freely and share advice as they learned to navigate caring for their loved ones during the pandemic.

  • Less is more for the next generation of CAR T cells

    Researchers at Penn Medicine have discovered that shortening the amino acid chain links, the two halves of the CAR plastered together and pre-activated the CAR T cells to latch onto tumor cells and attack them.

  • Penn Nursing dean Antonia Villarruel to receive the Ohtli Award from the government of Mexico

    This is the highest honor bestowed by the Mexican Government to individuals and organizations that have stood out for their work in favor of the empowerment of the Mexican diaspora and helped to “open the path” for the new Mexican American and Latino generations.

  • Humans of Penn Nursing: Joshua Porat-Dahlerbruch

    After graduating with a Ph.D. in May, Porat-Dahlerbruch will attend Ben-Gurion University in Israel on a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue his proposed project, “Nurse Practitioner Integration into the Israeli Healthcare System.” Israel implemented the nurse practitioner role just a few years ago, but, he says, health system-level challenges are hindering their full ability to help improve health care.  Through his research project, Porat-Dahlerbruch will help ease the integration of nurse practitioners into the Israeli healthcare system.
