After graduating with a Ph.D. in May, Porat-Dahlerbruch will attend Ben-Gurion University in Israel on a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue his proposed project, “Nurse Practitioner Integration into the Israeli Healthcare System.” Israel implemented the nurse practitioner role just a few years ago, but, he says, health system-level challenges are hindering their full ability to help improve health care. Through his research project, Porat-Dahlerbruch will help ease the integration of nurse practitioners into the Israeli healthcare system.

The professor of clinical oral medicine and restorative dentistry, and director of the School’s Care Center for Persons with Disabilities, has been recognized by the American Academy of Oral Medicine at this year’s recipient of its Craig S. The Orphan Disease Center was established at Penn a decade ago to facilitate and fund research, and develop transformative therapies for rare diseases. The ODC fields two flagship programs to promote research, while JumpStart collaborates with rare disease communities to provide expertise and pilot grants to collect information and develop research toward treatments.

A new study from Penn Nursing’s Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research has investigated associations between EHR usability and nurse job outcomes (burnout, job dissatisfaction, and intention to leave) and surgical patient outcomes (inpatient mortality and 30-day readmission). The study found that employing EHR systems with suboptimal usability was associated with higher odds of adverse nurse job outcomes and surgical patient mortality and readmission.

This year, Penn Dental Medicine represents three of the four students appointed to serve on National American Student Dental Association. Second-year student Ryan Kaminsky was elected District 3 Trustee on the Board of Trustees. Julie Berenblum was appointed Council on Membership Associate, and first-year student Hilary Wong was appointed Council on Communications Associate.
