  • The anniversary of COVID-19 and the growing importance of allyship

    In fall 2020, Senior Adjunct Professor of Global Leadership Rangita de Silva de Alwis’ “Women, Law, and Leadership” course at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School interviewed over 65 male law students and 40 legal and business leaders to ask about gender bias and allyship in the workplace. Over 89% of interviewees talked about how implicit, systemic, and structural biases exist, and most of these interviewees also discussed potential ideas for how to counter these kinds of subtle bias in the workplace.

  • PennPraxis and Water Center at Penn to develop stormwater master plan for Pittsburgh

  • Penn Law’s Eric Feldman on the likelihood of employers requiring mandatory COVID-19 vaccines

    The Heimbold Chair in International Law and Professor of Law Eric A. Feldman predicts that quite a few private companies are likely to require a COVID-19 vaccination, particularly those that involve some degree of contact between employees and the public, citing the 1905 case of Jacobson v. Massachusetts, which gives states the legal authority to mandate vaccines. However, he thinks a mandate is unlikely.

  • Penn Athletics earns perfect AEI score from Athlete Ally

    The organization Athlete Ally, a leading national nonprofit working at the intersection of sport and LGBTQI+ equality, recently unveiled its third Athletic Equality Index (AEI). Penn’s Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics earned a perfect 100 score on the newest iteration of the AEI, making Penn the only Ivy League institution or Philadelphia city school to boast such a score.

    An inaugural group of leading national CEOs and organizations including Goldman Sachs, Starbucks, and the Wharton School have come together to combat the racial wealth gap with the launch of NinetyToZero. Driven by the goal to transform the economic landscape that has led to a 90% racial wealth gap between white and Black Americans, NinetyToZero seeks to bring deliberate, collective action to counteract centuries of discrimination, segregation, and financial exploitation.
