Sixteen teams of first-year graduate architecture students spent the last week and a half in January designing carnival floats for a 52nd Street celebration of Juneteenth, the holiday celebrating the emancipation of American slaves on June 19, 1865. For the remainder of the studio, the students will focus on developing a market for the 52nd Street El station, incorporating the carnival theme.

The assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy was selected for the Outstanding Young Researcher Award (Macronix Prize) by the International Organization of Chinese Physicists and Astronomers. The award is given annually to one to two physicists and/or astronomers of Chinese ethnicity working in North America, Europe, or other regions outside Asia, to encourage and recognize contributions in physics or astronomy.

A paper in JAMA Internal Medicine examines regulatory frameworks of drug pricing in six countries with diverse financing, delivery, and reimbursement systems, ranging from socialized medicine to markets with competing private insurers and providers. The researchers found that these countries have nearly universal health insurance, covering more than 99% of their population, and none have the monopolistic pricing and marketing exclusivity found in the U.S.

The report, by Dana Dyer and Magali Duque, explores the ways in which themes including bias, representation, and allyship affect Black women in the legal field through the data collected from a survey of 30 Black Penn Law students, of which 24 identify as women and 6 identify as men.
