According to new research presented this week at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference, lower values of plasmalogens, a class of lipids created in the liver, were associated with a higher likelihood of Alzheimer’s disease. The research highlights a potential relationship between conditions such as obesity and diabetes and Alzheimer’s, as the liver has to work harder to break down fatty acids over time.

Alzheimer’s disease-relevant genetic data will be available for all investigators in order to promote more research on the disease. Data from the National Institute on Aging Genetics of Alzheimer's Disease Data Storage Site will be processed by the Genomic Center for Alzheimer’s Disease at the Perelman School of Medicine.
