Indigenous populations have the lowest life expectancy of all racial groups and experience disproportionate burdens for chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease. The associate professor of Africana Studies has won the 2023 Haitian Studies Association Book Prize for “White Gloves, Black Nation: Women, Citizenship, and Political Wayfaring in Haiti,” which examines the political life of women in Haiti during and after the U.S. occupied the country, from 1915 to 1934.

The senior vice dean for Academic Affairs and a professor of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care in the Perelman School of Medicine has been selected as one of four recipients of the 2023 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award by the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Penn Nursing’s Dalmacio Dennis Flores, assistant professor of nursing in the Department of Family and Community Health, has been awarded a 2023 grant from the Hillman Innovations in Care program.
