Sharon Kuo, a graduating senior in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, is the inaugural recipient of the Madison “Maddie” Magee Award for Undergraduate Excellence. Kuo’s interests within her major include mechanical design and product design, and she is passionate about space exploration and advancing human spaceflight.

Climate change disasters’ impact on population health, health disparities, and the national health care delivery infrastructure are subjects of too little academic research at a time when policymakers’ need for such data has never been greater. That’s according to five top academic research experts convened in a virtual seminar at Penn’s Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics.

This year’s student competition, “Designing For an Equitable Future in Chinatown,” asked students to elevate and prioritize low-income communities of Chinatown and leverage open space to facilitate equitable development and neighborhood preservation. The first prize was awarded to Qianyun Wei, Chris Xu, and Marcus Owens, and the second prize was awarded to Hongyi Li, Jingyi Cai, and Shuting Li.

Three Penn Dental Medicine students have been named 2023 Delta Dental Community Scholars, each receiving a sizeable scholarship in recognition of their community service, academic achievement, and future plans to work with vulnerable populations after graduation.

Penn Dental Medicine students and faculty turned the spotlight on the School’s research activities as part of the 2023 American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research/Canadian Association for Dental Research Annual Meeting & Exhibition, recently held in Portland, Oregon.
