    Penn’s second annual DivE In (Diversity and Equity Initiative) weekend focused on improving diversity in fields that are related to the study of the mind, such as psychology, neuroscience, biology, linguistics, and sociology, and placing a specific focus on facilitating doctoral applications.

  • Weitzman to honor Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Hartford400

    The 2022 Kanter Tritsch Medal in Architecture and the 2022 Witte-Sakamoto Family Medal in City and Regional Planning are two of three professional honors bestowed annually by the Weitzman School of Design. They will be presented at a ceremony which raises funds for student scholarships on Feb. 23, 2023.

  • PPR Director Cary Coglianese chairs new NASEM committee evaluating the statutory authorities of the U.S. Coast Guard

    Cary Coglianese, the Edward B. Shils Professor of Law and Professor of Political Science, has been named the chair of an ad hoc National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) committee formed to identify emerging issues that are likely to demand U.S. Coast Guard services over the next decade and consider whether the Service’s existing statutory authorities are sufficient to meet this demand, and, if not, where the Service’s authority could be bolstered.

  • Study shows impact of report cards on opioid prescribing

    In a recent study, research professor Aileen Rothbard of Penn’s School of Social Policy & Practice mailed opioid prescribing report cards to Medicaid providers in Philadelphia, and found that there was a larger reduction in opioid prescribing among Philadelphia Medicaid providers than those in surrounding counties after report cards were mailed.

    Two projects from students in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Department of City & Regional Planning have been recognized by The American Society of Landscape Architecture. “Arboretum Within Wetland”⁠ proposes an immersive experience for visitors to the wetlands along the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C., and “A New Central District and Balanced Community”⁠ is a sustainable housing solution for a landscape-prone site in Puerto Rico.
