  • Assistive technology for infants with cleft palate wins inaugural Advancing Oral & Craniofacial Health Award

    The Center for Innovation and Precision Dentistry,a collaboration between Penn Dental Medicine and Penn Engineering, has presented its inaugural Advancing Oral & Craniofacial Health Award to Eugene Ko, assistant professor of clinical oral medicine at Penn Dental Medicine, who will be collaborating with Shu Yang, chair and Joseph Bordogna Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, with a secondary appointment in the Department Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

  • Penn Medicine launching center for applied health informatics

    In a move that will enhance Penn Medicine’s clinical, operational, and research and clinical capabilities, the health system is launching the Center for Applied Health Informatics to better facilitate and coordinate health data projects across the health system and grow its leadership in health informatics globally.

  • Penn Medicine-led research team awarded $2.9 million to study heart disease and cancer in Black and Hispanic communities

    The grant awarded to the Cardio-Oncology Translational Center of Excellence at Penn Medicine will fund projects aimed at reducing racial disparities in breast and prostate cancer patients with a higher risk for cardiovascular disease.

  • National Society honors three Penn Nursing professors

    The Gerontological Society of America honored three Penn Nursing Professors with awards for their outstanding research, distinguished leadership in teaching and service, and for fostering new ideas in gerontological science: Kathryn H. Bowles, professor of nursing and the van Ameringen Chair in Nursing Excellence; Nancy A. Hodgson, the Anthony Buividas Term Chair in Gerontology, professor of nursing, and chair of the Department of Biobehavioral Health Sciences; and Pamela Z.

  • A year of anti-racism efforts at Chester County Hospital

    As the CEO of Chester County Hospital, Mike Duncan wondered what could he do to understand the murder of George Floyd and resulting protests, and use those as an opportunity?   • Penn Vet parasitologist named Penn Presidential Professor

    Penn President Amy Gutmann has appointed De’Broski R. Herbert, in the Department of Pathobiology at the School of Veterinary Medicine as Presidential Term Associate Professor. Herbert is currently associate professor of immunology, and an active collaborator with faculty at Penn Medicine who concentrate on immunologic mechanisms of disease, as well as with faculty from the Institute for Immunology, the Penn Center for Pulmonary Biology, and the Penn Digestive Diseases Center.

  • Katalin Karikó, mRNA trailblazer, awarded 2022 Vilcek Prize for Excellence in Biotechnology

    Karikó is part of the scientific team whose innovative research laid the foundation for COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. The prize from The Vilcek Foundation is awarded to immigrants to the United States who change the country and the world or to those who are dedicated advocates of immigrants. Karikó will officially receive the award, which comes with $100,000, in the spring of 2022.
