Finding safe, consistent childcare after traditional working hours can be difficult. To help, Penn is piloting an evening childcare program that will provide two evenings of care at the Penn Children’s Center, 3101 Walnut St., during the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters. Beginning Monday, Oct. 1., care will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays.

Wear washable boots. That may be one of the most important tips offered to a group of 19 incoming Penn Vet students who took part in a three-day seminar introducing them to the daily care of dairy cows. Officially, the seminar, tailored to students getting ready to start their first year at Penn Vet, is called “Introduction to Dairy Production Systems.” But it’s more commonly known as, “I’ve Never Touched A Cow, But I Want To.”

WHAT: Shoemaker Green, Penn’s newest patch of open space, has spread a 2.75 acre welcome mat at the front door of the historic Palestra. Complete with an inviting lawn, a sustainable rain garden, a refurbished place of honor for Penn’s War Memorial sculpture, and pedestrian walkways that lead to Franklin Field and Penn Park, the green has further enhanced the east end of campus.

In the August issue of The Advocate, Penn is listed among the magazine’s picks for the nation’s “Top 10 Trans Friendly Colleges and Universities.” Earning a score of five out of five possible stars for demonstrating “a commitment to the trans community by implementing many trans-supportive policies,” Penn is cited as one of the most supportive campuses for LGBT students in America.

PHILADELPHIA -– The Center for the Advanced Study of India at the University of Pennsylvania will hold a 20th Anniversary Symposium on “India: Two Decades of Transformation.” The Sept. 27 event will be in the Michael A. Fitts Auditorium of the Penn Law School’s Golkin Hall from 2 to 6:45 p.m.
