PHILADELPHIA — Targeted drug delivery is one of the more enticing applications of nanotechnology; by designing pharmaceuticals on an atomic scale, engineers hope to get them attacking diseases with newfound precision and efficiency. A team of University of Pennsylvania researchers has recently been recognized by the National Science Foundation for the development of computer models that will be instrumental in improving these designs.

So powerful, it appears, that the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill changed course due to the river’s outflow, sparing the Louisiana coast from worse oil pollution than it might have otherwise experienced.

Five Penn students will be able to conduct research using digital media through grants from the Penn Libraries. The Seltzer Family Digital Media Awards provide each student digital media tools such as video or still cameras, audio recorders or an iPad for their projects. The Penn Libraries will provide tech support for the students’ projects.
