Penn Launches Center for the Study of Contemporary China

By this time in January, many people have already abandoned their New Year’s resolutions to stick with an exercise routine. But, Penn provides lots of programs to keep employees on track to better health, including discounts on gym memberships. Suzanne Smith, health promotion program administrator in the Division of Human Resources (HR), says people often sign up for a gym near their workplace or home, depending on what’s most convenient.

IPI workshop aids cross-cultural understanding
With more than 7,000 international scholars and students on Penn’s campus, actions and words can literally be lost in translation, or misunderstood because of cultural differences and norms. University administrators and staff can learn the “do’s” and “don’ts” of working with and providing services for students and scholars from across the world at the 1st Annual International Programs Institute (IPI) on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Singh Center begins to take shape
When the Penn community left for winter break in December, the Krishna P. Singh Center for Nanotechnology on the 3200 block of Walnut Street appeared to be little more than a foundation at street level. But now passers-by are greeted by a towering steel frame at the eastern edge of campus, bringing the project a tangible step closer to its projected spring 2013 completion.
