Penn’s Sustainability Initiatives Get High Grade From Sustainable Endowments Institute
PHILADELPHIA –- With a grade of A- from the Sustainable Endowments Institute’s College Sustainability Report Card for 2011, the University of Pennsylvania continues to rank among the top U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities for its sustainability initiatives while being recognized for improvements, specifically in green building and administration.

University of Pennsylvania Trustees Approve Design of Shoemaker Green
PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania’s Board of Trustees today approved the design for Shoemaker Green, an $8 million green-space project off 33rd Street between Franklin Field and the Palestra that will connect the central campus to the University’s new Penn Park.

Car sharing meets a need for temporary wheels
Dear Benny, I know Penn is trying to decrease the number of people who drive to campus and I would like to take public transportation rather than drive. The trouble is that I often have to go to meetings or events around town as part of my job and therefore need a car. Golkin Hall
Photo credit: Mike Swiszcz With spectacular views of the Law School Courtyard, Golkin Hall is the fourth and final piece of Penn Law’s four-building site, and the last phase in a decade-long transformation of the Law School campus. Golkin will physically connect Silverman Hall—Penn Law’s signature, 110-year-old Georgian-style building—with Tanenbaum Hall, while also respecting the historical three-story row homes that make up Restaurant Row across Sansom Street.

Judah Friedlander the actor stars as “Frank Rossitano” alongside Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin on the hit NBC series “30 Rock,” and has appeared in more than 20 motion pictures, including “Meet the Parents,” “How High,” “Zoolander,” “Chapter 27” “Showtime,” “American Splendor” and “The Wrestler.” For his work in “American Splendor,” he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2004 Independent Spirit Awards.

Wharton School Announces $15 Million Gift From Patty and Jay H. Baker to Establish Retailing Center
Philadelphia, PA—The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce a $15 million gift from Patty and Jay H. Baker to permanently endow the Jay H. Baker Retailing Center. Jay Baker, W’56, is a member of the Wharton Board of Overseers and retired president and director of Kohl’s Corporation, the Milwaukee-based department store chain.

Depictions of people facing death have been used in news coverage since before the advent of photography. The earliest were illustrations, engravings and woodcuts, such as drawings of President Lincoln’s assassination in 1865.

Penn Study Shows Two-Sided Immune Cell Could Be Harnessed to Shrink Tumors
PHILADELPHIA - A recently identified immune cell that directs other cells to fight infection plays a critical role in regulating the immune system in both health and disease. Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine have discovered how a stimulatory molecule and a protein found on the membrane of another immune cell make T helper 17 cells multi-taskers of sorts.
