Successful Periodontal Therapy May Reduce the Risk of Preterm Birth, According to Penn Dental Study
PHILADELPHIA –- A collaboration led by a periodontal researcher from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine has found a possible link between the success of gum-disease treatment and the likelihood of giving birth prematurely, according to a study published in the journal BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dedication Set for Morris Arboretum’s Horticulture Center Complex, a Regional Model of Sustainability
PHILADELPHIA – The Morris Arboretum will host a dedication ceremony for its new $13 million Horticulture Center at Bloomfield Farm, across the street from the Arboretum’s public garden, at 11 a.m., Oct. 5. The Horticulture Center marks the first new building to be built on the property since the founding of the Morris Arboretum in the early 1900s.

PHILADELPHIA - Many types of tumors grow because of over-expression or a mutation of a protein called the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), normally regulated by a hormone-like peptide called the epidermal growth factor (EGF). Several cancer drugs, including Herceptin, Erbitux, Iressa and Tarceva fight tumors by blocking EGFR and related receptors, notes Mark A.

At Penn Institute for Urban Research Event, Museum Directors to Discuss Art Museums as Community Anchors
PHILADELPHIA — The Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) will host a panel discussion with leaders from the country’s most prominent art museums at 6 p.m. Sept. 13, in the Van Pelt Auditorium of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
