And the winners are... Earlier this month, Facilities and Real Estate Services announced the latest slate of environmentally sound projects to be supported by the Green Fund. This funding program is a competitively awarded one-time grant of as much as $50,000 that finances innovative ideas by faculty, students and staff to help Penn meet the goals of the Climate Action Plan.

A.D. (After Disaster)
The last 10 years have seen more than their fair share of disasters, some man-made, like the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and civil wars in Africa, and others caused by nature, like 2004’s Asian tsunami, 2005’s Hurricane Katrina and the recent earthquakes in Haiti, Chile and China. These disasters have altered the landscape of many cities throughout the world. The PennDesign Black Student Alliance (BSA) says previous mistakes in planning and design have proven difficult to fix, and the recent economic crisis has only exacerbated the complexities.

Penn Vet cures inherited form of day blindness in dogs
Using gene therapy, ophthalmology researchers from Penn's School of Veterinary Medicine have treated dogs with congenital achromatopsia, restoring their day vision in what appears to be a permanent cure for a form of blindness that also affects humans.

University of Pennsylvania Honored in Newly Published ‘Guide to 286 Green Colleges’
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania has been acknowledged as one of the country’s most environmentally responsible schools, according to the Princeton Review, which partnered with the U.S. Green Building Council to create “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 286 Green Colleges.”

Gene Therapy Cures Canines of Inherited Form of Day Blindness, Penn Veterinary Researchers Say
PHILADELPHIA –- Veterinary ophthalmology researchers from the University of Pennsylvania have used gene therapy to restore retinal cone function and day vision in two canine models of congenital achromatopsia, also called rod monochromacy or total color blindness.
