University of Pennsylvania Joins International Collaboration in Government/Academics to Research "Soft Matter"
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania’s Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter has entered into a multi-year agreement with specialty chemical producer Rhodia and the French National Center for Scientific Research to launch an international, public-private research collaboration in soft condensed matter.

Penn hosts public discussion: Can arts revive our cities?
The Penn Institute for Urban Research, in partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and Philagrafika, will sponsor a public discussion from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2 at the University Museum of Archeology and Anthropology, on how the arts affect local and national economies and whether the arts can revive America's economic landscape.

Nanotechnologists From the University of Pennsylvania Collaborate to Form Near-Frictionless Diamond Material
PHILADELPHIA –- Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and IBM Research-Zürich have fabricated an ultra sharp, diamond-like carbon tip possessing such high strength that it is 3,000 times more wear-resistant at the nanoscale than silicon.

Penn Nursing Hosts "Cities and Women’s Health: Global Perspectives" to Tackle Modern Urban Health Issues

Penn Libraries receive $4.25 million gift
The Penn Libraries have received $4.25 million for the renovation of the Rare Book & Manuscript Library and the creation of a Special Collections Center. The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a member of the Libraries’ Board of Overseers. This is the largest gift to the Libraries from a living donor.

Jon M. Huntsman Jr., U.S. Ambassador to China, to Speak at Penn’s 254th Commencement
PHILADELPHIA –- The Honorable Jon M. Huntsman Jr., U.S. ambassador to China, will deliver the address at the University of Pennsylvania’s 254th commencement on Monday, May 17.Huntsman’s long public-service career includes being elected to two terms as governor of Utah. He was formerly deputy assistant secretary of commerce for Asia, ambassador to Singapore and deputy U.S. trade representative and is a founding director of the Pacific Council on International Policy.

Penn Outreach to Benefit From Statewide Broadband Network Funded With Federal Stimulus Dollars
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania is among Pennsylvania institutions of higher education whose educational outreach, through its Mid-Atlantic Gigapop for Internet2 – or MAGPI -- facility, will be enhanced through the construction of a new statewide broadband network, made possible through federal stimulus funding.
