PHILADELPHIA – Eight faculty members at the University of Pennsylvania have been named the inaugural Penn Fellows, a leadership-development program that recognizes faculty in mid-career. Penn Fellows have the opportunity to build networks across the University, meet with distinguished academic leaders, think strategically about university governance and participate in monthly dinners with prominent speakers from within Penn and beyond. PHILADELPHIA – Maureen Rush, Vice President for Public Safety at the University of Pennsylvania has been appointed to the United Way’s Board of Directors. “The children, families and seniors of this region rely on United Way each day to improve their quality of life. With the leadership and support of dedicated board members like Ms. Rush we will continue to deliver on that promise,” said Jill Michal, President and CEO of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing has created the first post-graduate program to focus on sleep and sleep disorders. The graduate post-master’s certificate in sleep is a one-year program that offers an interdisciplinary approach to sleep medicine, combining online courses with clinical experiences and preparing students to manage 80 sleep disorders.

President Amy Gutmann announced early this month that Penn would expand its existing academic and research collaborations with two of the most prestigious universities in China.

PHILADELPHIA –- Living with a female mouse can extend the reproductive life of a male mouse by as much as 20 percent, according to a study conducted by Ralph Brinster and a team of other researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. The study was reported online today in the journal Biology of Reproduction.
