Multidisciplinary Examination of Innovation in India Is Focus of Penn Bi-Coastal Conference
Burgeoning India is facing historic macroeconomic instability, and 2014 is shaping up to be a contentious election year there. Add a rapidly growing population and an overtaxed infrastructure, and it’s clear India is a case study in the urgent need for innovation. At a two-city conference hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, worldwide experts from multiple disciplines will come together for “India as a Pioneer of Innovation: Constraints & Opportunities,” a forward-thinking look at the world’s largest democracy.

Field Center at Penn Announces Third Alan Lerner Fellow in Child Welfare Policy
A third-year student at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Brittany Strandell, has been selected as the third Alan Lerner Fellowship in Child Welfare Policy recipient. Penn Law and Engineering Launch Innovative Program in Law and Technology
At a time when debates over technology policy are as significant as they are complex, the University of Pennsylvania Law School and School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) are launching an innovative joint degree program whose goal is to graduate lawyers and engineers able to address issues at the intersection of law and technology. Anita L. Allen Appointed Vice Provost for Faculty at Penn
Anita L. Allen has been named vice provost for faculty at the University of Pennsylvania, effective July 1. She is the Henry R. Silverman Professor of Law in the Penn Law School and professor of philosophy in the School of Arts and Sciences. The announcement was made today by Provost Vincent Price.

Penn Law, FactCheck.org Web Sites Win Webby People’s Voice Awards
Two Web sites at the University of Pennsylvania have won Webby People’s Voice Awards at the 17th annual Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. SCOTUS considering a case brought by Penn Law’s Supreme Court Clinic
The legal argument the students helped to formulate maintained that the constitutional right to be free of retroactive (ex post facto) laws was violated when their client was sentenced to 70 months in prison in a check-kiting scheme. They will learn by the end of the Term in June whether the Justices agree.
