Penn Center for High Impact Philanthropy Hosts Inaugural Seminar Featuring Newark Mayor
PHILADELPHIA –- The Center for High Impact Philanthropy at the University of Pennsylvania will host its inaugural seminar, “Addressing the Needs of Vulnerable Families,” on Monday, Nov. 8, featuring Cory A. Booker, mayor of Newark, N.J., as the keynote speaker.

Penn Graduate School of Education Opens Business Plan Competition Submissions; Top Prize $25,000
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education and the Milken Family Foundation have announced that the 2011 Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition is open for submissions. Entering its second year, this global competition is the first contest specifically aimed at stimulating entrepreneurship and addressing challenges in education. It is designed to connect social entrepreneurs to venture capitalists and other funders interested in improving education.

”The Dogon: Work, Women and Water” at Penn’s Arthur Ross Gallery
PHILADELPHIA — “The Dogon: Work, Women and Water” opens at the University of Pennsylvania’s Arthur Ross Gallery on Nov. 5. Featuring 15 photographs by renowned Magnum photographer Stuart Franklin, this exhibit is in cooperation with the 2010-11 Year of Water at Penn. Last year, the Voss Foundation commissioned Franklin to photograph its efforts to provide clean drinking water to the Dogon region of Mali, a land-locked country in western Africa.

Penn GSE Student Earns Social Entrepreneurship Award
PHILADELPHIA –- Scott Stimpfel, a doctoral student in the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, will receive the 2010 Social Entrepreneurship Award from the Manhattan Institute on Nov. 4 at the Princeton Club in New York for co-founding and serving as the executive director of Resources for Educational and Employment Opportunities.

Penn’s Center for Tech Transfer Wins Award for Industry/University/Government Research
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Technology Transfer has been honored with a Deal of Distinction Award by the Licensing Executive Society (USA and Canada) Inc. The award was given for a collaborative research agreement forged earlier this year by Penn and pharmaceutical company Astra Zeneca that will make use of academic and private-industry resources to generate new Alzheimer’s disease drug candidates for clinical development.

Wharton School to Host 2011 Global Alumni Forum in San Francisco
Philadelphia and San Francisco – The Wharton School announced that, for the first time in the history of the Wharton Global Alumni Forums, the School next year will combine the three regional Forums into a single event, to be held in San Francisco on June 23-24, 2011. We are excited to hold this year's Forum in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of Wharton | San Francisco, our West Coast campus and home to a thriving MBA Program for Executives, as well as an entrepreneurship program and non-degree programs for executives.

Wharton School Announces Partnership With Sovereign Bank, Santander Universities
The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce the establishment of a Partnership for Globalization with Sovereign Bank, part of Banco Santander. PHILADELPHIA –- A new report from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government shows how public investment guided by strategic planning can produce highly successful results, even within an urban area formerly plagued by high levels of vacancy and abandonment. “Vacant Property Reclamation Through Strategic Investment in Eastern North Philadelphia, 1998-2010“ documents the work of a nonprofit organization in implementing an investment strategy for a section of Philadelphia.
