PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education-International is teaming with 15 other members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to conduct an international study on secondary-school teacher preparation, “Identifying Unique and Promising Practices in Math and Science Teacher Education in APEC Economies.”

PHILADELPHIA -- Joshua Plotkin, a biologist in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, has been awarded an $875,000 Packard Fellowship for Science and Engineering.Plotkin was one of 16 researchers chosen from 99 nominees from 50 universities. His research involves mapping genetic information in nature through the use of mathematical formulas.

WHAT: A groundbreaking at the University of Pennsylvania for its 24-acre, $46 million Penn Park that features pedestrian walks, three athletic fields and a 12-court outdoor tennis facility and will bring 20 percent more open space to the campus. The park is made up of 14 acres of land Penn purchased from the U.S. Postal Service in 2007 as well as 10 acres the University already owned around South Street. WHO:
