We all know what tango is about. It’s that sultry Latin dance form that’s all about seduction, jealousy and the tension between men and women, right?

Not so fast, say the dancers of TangoMujer, the witty, slightly subversive all-women dance troupe that makes its Philadelphia debut at the Annenberg Center’s Harold Prince Theatre Oct. 24-28. Besides doing a little gender-bending with traditional tango roles — that’s troupe members Angelika Fisher (left) and Brigitte Winkler in the picture — they also tackle subjects usually not explored in the language of tango. Imagine a tango set to the music of Edith Piaf, for instance. This troupe did, and “La Vie En Rose” is one of the numbers it will perform at Penn.
