Andrea Mitchell (CW'67), chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News, will be the speaker at this year's Baccalaureate ceremony on Sunday, May 17.

President Judith Rodin selected Mitchell as Baccalaureate speaker after conferring with numerous University officials and the Trustees' Honorary Degrees and Awards Committee.

Mitchell's career in broadcast journalism spans 22 years, beginning as a City Hall reporter for KYW radio in 1976. Twenty of those years have been with NBC News, as Washington correspondent, chief congressional correspondent, White House reporter, chief White House correspondent and, since 1995, chief foreign affairs correspondent. Mitchell has covered such signal events as the historic handshake between Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin and President Bill Clinton's visit to Russia.

Mitchell is also a University Trustee and serves on several Trustee committees, as well as the Trustees' Council of Penn Women.

On Monday, May 18, former President Jimmy Carter will address the graduates and their familiies at the 242nd Commencement.
