Heart smarts

Penn’s Division of Public Safety has introduced a new health and safety initiative, the Heartsafe Automated External Defibrillator Program (AED), designed to combat sudden cardiac arrest—the leading cause of death in the workplace. This new program allows volunteers to become Penn Heartsafe Site Coordinators. These coordinators will liaise between the Division of Public Safety and Cardiac Science, the company providing the AED devices. India ink

Knowledge@Wharton, the biweekly online business magazine from the Wharton School, will soon feature a version all about India. Scheduled to debut in the fall, the new site will include articles on such topics as business process outsourcing, family businesses, and research and development in India, all published in English. India Knowledge@Wharton, funded by donations and corporate sponsorships, will also provide research papers and podcasts for those interested in one of the world’s fastest growing economies. This version joins China K@W (published in Mandarin), Universia K@W (published in Spanish and Portuguese) and the English language site. Good outcome

Linda H. Aiken, the Claire M. Fagin Leadership Professor in Nursing, professor of sociology, and director of the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research, is being recognized as the most influential leader and researcher in the field of nursing outcomes in the country. In Washington, D.C. on March 21, Aiken will receive the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Award for Sustained National Leadership from Research!America, an alliance of health care professionals from the private and public sectors. Aiken can add this to her long list of achievements—she was ranked 10th in the country this year in Modern Healthcare magazine’s 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare list.
