Dining Days

Foodies take note. University City Dining Days return July 20 through 27. Neighborhood restaurants will offer a fixed price meal of $20, $25 or $30 per person, excluding tax, alcohol and gratuity. This time around, 26 eateries are participating in Dining Days, including Copabanana ($20, 4000 Spruce St.); Lemon Grass Thai ($25, 3626 Lancaster Ave.) and Nan Modern Food ($30, 4000 Chestnut St.). Diners can also take advantage of $5 discount parking at the garages at 38th and Walnut and 40th and Walnut. Gift for New Bolton

Penn’s New Bolton Center—the animal hospital that has gained national fame for its treatment of injured racehorse Barbaro—has received a $13.5 million grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The money will be used for construction of new medical facilities on the New Bolton Center campus, including a new isolation building, a colic barn and a chemical digestion facility, and will help the Center continue to provide its crucial services while preparing a new generation of top veterinarians. That’s especially important, officials say, because of a shortage of large-animal vets statewide. “The investment announced here today is good news for the state’s agriculture industry not only because the New Bolton Center will be able to better prepare for and respond to animal diseases,” Gov. Ed Rendell said in a statement, “but because they will be able to provide hands-on training for their students, equipping them for top jobs in the field of veterinary medicine.”

Free music at Mann

Penn Volunteers in Public Service is offering free lawn tickets to Penn staffers for summer performances at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts.
