The Philadelphia International Children’s Festival turns 25 this year, and is celebrating its silver anniversary with five days of fun-filled theatrical performances for the entire family. Past Festival celebrations have included diverse performers from around the country and world, and this year’s festivities are no different.

Adapted from the book by Walter Dean Myers, the play “Blues Journey” takes a viewer through the history of the blues and one of its offspring, rock ‘n’ roll. Dance group BREAK! The Urban Funk Spectacular (pictured) traces the history of hip-hop dance over the last thirty years.

Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Eric Carle’s beloved book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” with a performance by the acclaimed Mermaid Theatre. Listen as master storyteller Antonio Sacre shares his touching and humorous bilingual stories, and while musician Christylez Bacon performs on a variety of instruments, such as the West-African Djembe drum, the acoustic guitar and the syncopated oral percussions of the human beat-box.
