Four-time Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard is probably best known for his work with acclaimed writer/director/producer Spike Lee, having scored Lee’s “Miracle at St. Anna,” “Inside Man,” “She Hate Me,” “The 25th Hour,” “Bamboozled,” “Jungle Fever” and “Malcolm X,” among others.

Blanchard, born and raised in New Orleans, also collaborated with Lee on his 2006 documentary “When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts” and the more recent doc “If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise,” about Hurricane Katrina and the government’s inaction in its aftermath.

On Oct. 3, Blanchard returns to the Annenberg Center to perform music from his Grammy-winning “A Tale of God’s Will (A Requiem for Katrina),” a beautifully haunting and impassioned song-cycle about the physical and emotional ravages inflicted upon the City of New Orleans and its residents by Hurricane Katrina.

Featuring 13 original compositions inspired from and featured in “When the Levees Broke,” Blanchard’s masterpiece is an evocative, emotional journey of a city whose spirit, even through the most devastating of circumstances, lives on.
