    The Gerontological Society of America honored three Penn Nursing Professors with awards for their outstanding research, distinguished leadership in teaching and service, and for fostering new ideas in gerontological science: Kathryn H. Bowles, professor of nursing and the van Ameringen Chair in Nursing Excellence; Nancy A. Hodgson, the Anthony Buividas Term Chair in Gerontology, professor of nursing, and chair of the Department of Biobehavioral Health Sciences; and Pamela Z.

  • Annenberg faculty receive $3.49 million grant to study vaping among LGBTQ+ youth

    Led by communication professor Andy Tan, the research team aims to create anti-vaping messages tailored to LGBTQ+ teens, who are at a greater risk for tobacco use and tobacco-related health concerns.

  • A year of anti-racism efforts at Chester County Hospital

    As the CEO of Chester County Hospital, Mike Duncan wondered what could he do to understand the murder of George Floyd and resulting protests, and use those as an opportunity? While wider efforts were getting underway at the hospital and across Penn Medicine through its Action for Cultural Transformation (ACT), Duncan also committed himself to finding out how he could help from people who knew best in the Chester County community. To start, he could listen to the Black community.

  • Penn Vet parasitologist named Penn Presidential Professor

    Penn President Amy Gutmann has appointed De’Broski R. Herbert, in the Department of Pathobiology at the School of Veterinary Medicine as Presidential Term Associate Professor. Herbert is currently associate professor of immunology, and an active collaborator with faculty at Penn Medicine who concentrate on immunologic mechanisms of disease, as well as with faculty from the Institute for Immunology, the Penn Center for Pulmonary Biology, and the Penn Digestive Diseases Center.

  • Linda Goode Bryant is 2021-2022 Sachs Guest Curator

    The Institute of Contemporary Art will welcome visionary artist, writer, filmmaker, and activist Linda Goode Bryant’s appointment as the 2021-2022 Katherine Sachs (CW’69) and Keith L. Sachs (W’67) Guest Curator. Goode Bryant’s role will be as Artistic Director of the forthcoming initiative RAW Académie, Session 9: Infrastructure, an innovative collaboration between ICA and Dakar-based RAW Material Company, to be held in spring 2022.

  • Katalin Karikó, mRNA trailblazer, awarded 2022 Vilcek Prize for Excellence in Biotechnology

    Karikó is part of the scientific team whose innovative research laid the foundation for COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. The prize from The Vilcek Foundation is awarded to immigrants to the United States who change the country and the world or to those who are dedicated advocates of immigrants. Karikó will officially receive the award, which comes with $100,000, in the spring of 2022.

  • Penn Vet New Bolton Center, Royal Veterinary College launch new MARS EQUESTRIAN™ Veterinary Scholarship program for equine research

    Through its interdisciplinary, mentorship-based approach, program offers the opportunity to conduct research alongside experts in equine health and veterinary welfare while pursuing two advanced credentials: the Graduate Certificate in Animal Welfare and Behavior at Penn Vet during year one, followed by the Master of Research (MRes) program at the RVC in year two.
