  • Center for Innovation & Precision Dentistry welcomes inaugural class to training program

    The Center for Innovation & Precision Dentistry (CiPD) has selected its inaugural class of fellows for its new postdoctoral training program. The CiPD was awarded a $2.5 million grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research last summer to establish the program, recently naming this first cohort of fellows that includes Justin Burrell, Marshall Padilla, Zhi Ren, and Dennis Sourvanos.

  • Penn Dental dean Mark Wolff honored by Nationalities Service Center for service to vulnerable populations

    Mark S. Wolff was recognized by Philadelphia-based Nationalities Service Center (NSC) for the School’s service to refugees and other vulnerable populations as one of the honorees at NSC’s annual benefit. In 2019, Penn Dental Medicine started its Dental Care Center for Vulnerable Populations to provide dental care to refugees and survivors of psychological and physical violence in partnership with NSC, a refugee services organization, which refers its clients there for dental care.

  • American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry to recognize care center for serving children with special needs

    The Manuel M. Album Award is presented annually to an individual or organization that has made the greatest contribution to the oral health of children with special needs. Beginning in 2021, the School’s Care Center for Persons with Disabilities provides comprehensive restorative and preventive dental care to children and adults with wide-ranging disabilities.

  • Penn Dental Medicine launches new AEGD program

    The Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program is now accepting applications for its inaugural class, which will enter in July. The one-year AEGD program is designed to provide dental school graduates with advanced dental education training in comprehensive dental care with a focus on medically complex, vulnerable, and underserved populations.

  • Assistive technology for infants with cleft palate wins inaugural Advancing Oral & Craniofacial Health Award

    The Center for Innovation and Precision Dentistry,a collaboration between Penn Dental Medicine and Penn Engineering, has presented its inaugural Advancing Oral & Craniofacial Health Award to Eugene Ko, assistant professor of clinical oral medicine at Penn Dental Medicine, who will be collaborating with Shu Yang, chair and Joseph Bordogna Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, with a secondary appointment in the Department Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

    Penn Dental Medicine opened its doors during the month of April to children in the community, providing free dental care within the School’s pediatric care center, at Puentes de Salud, and aboard the PennSmiles dental van as part of Public Citizens for Children and Youth’s annual Give Kids a Smile.
