Some dressed as Disney characters, others as superheroes, students and faculty from Penn Dental Medicine provided free dental care to local children as part of Public Citizens for Children and Youth’s 15th annual Give Kids a Smile event. Dental students also provided oral health education to participating children in the waiting area of the pediatric clinic.

For their work in launching educational programs, Yassmin Parsaei and Katherine Jie Shi of the School of Dental Medicine have received the 2018 ADEA/GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Preventive Dentistry Scholarships, bestowed each year to predoctoral dental students who have demonstrated academic excellence in preventive dentistry.

The assistant professor in Penn Dental Medicine’s Department of Oral Medicine and Assistant Director of the Postgraduate Oral Medicine Program, has been recognized with two awards—the 2024 10 Under 10 Award presented by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the 2024 Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA) Recognition Award.
