    To optimize post-acute care decision-making, a team led by the School of Nursing developed, validated, and tested a two-step clinical decision support algorithm called Discharge Referral Expert System for Care Transitions (DIRECT).

  • Patient safety in hospitals still a concern

    Researchers from the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at Penn Nursing investigate whether hospitals have implemented a key National Academy of Medicine recommendation—to improve nurse work environments and assure adequate nurse staffing—and whether these changes corresponded to improved patient safety, as reported by patients and nurses.

  • Sochalski wins 2018 Lois Capps Policy Luminary Award

    Julie Sochalski, associate professor, associate dean for Academic Programs, and the Class of 1965 25th Reunion Term Chair at Penn Nursing, received the 2018 American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Lois Capps Policy Luminary Award, on Sunday, October 28, during the Academic Nursing Leadership Conference in Washington, D. C.

    Bridgette Brawner, associate professor in Penn Nursing’s Department of Family and Community Health, has won the 2018 Richard L. Sowell Article of the Year Award from the  Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.

  • Kathryn H. Bowles to receive 15th Claire M. Fagin Distinguished Researcher Award

    The biennial award honors a Penn Nursing faculty member who has made a distinguished contribution to nursing scholarship. Bowles is the van Ameringen Chair in Nursing Excellence and a professor in Penn Nursing’s Department of Biobehavioral Health Sciences.
