Penn Named Partner Campus in AAAS Emerging Leaders in Science & Society Program
The American Association for the Advancement of Science has selected the University of Pennsylvania to be an Emerging Leaders in Science & Society, ELISS, founding partner campus. Three other universities were also chosen, Stanford, University of Washington, and Purdue.

Penn Study Shows National Movement Against Non-Medically Indicated Deliveries Prior to 39 Weeks
A national movement to eliminate non-medically indicated (NMI) delivery before 39 weeks has prompted nearly two-thirds of all U.S. hospitals handling non-emergency births to adopt specific policies against the practice, according to new research from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The results of the nationwide survey represent a strong step in promoting maternal and perinatal health, and reducing the number of infants requiring admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Two Web sites at the University of Pennsylvania have won Webby People’s Voice Awards at the 17th annual Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. The IADAS presents two honors — The Webby People's Voice Award and The Webby Award — in each of its five categories: Web Sites, Interactive Advertising & Media, Online Film & Video, Mobile & Apps and Social.

Creating Canopy giving away trees to city residents
WHAT: For the third year, the University is partnering with the City of Philadelphia’s Parks and Recreation Department to give away free trees through the Creating Canopy program. Penn and UPHS faculty and staff who pre-register by Friday, May 10, can receive a free tree. Only Penn and UPHS employees who own a home in Philadelphia are eligible for the giveaway.

In Lacrosse, Six Women, Six Men Earn All Ivy Honors
Penn’s women’s and men’s lacrosse teams each had six players named to the All-Ivy teams this season. Shannon Mangini, a junior from Garden City, N.Y., was named unanimous first-team All-Ivy. This marks her first All-Ivy selection. Mangini was also selected as the first-ever Ivy League Midfielder of the Year, in a vote by the League’s coaches.
