Some of the world’s leading minds in business, academia, medicine and technology gathered in Dubai early last month for the first-ever Summit on the Global Agenda. Among them were several faculty from Penn—as well as President Amy Gutmann. And the Penn faculty involved in the event have returned with glowing reviews of what the Summit did for them—and what Penn’s participation could do for the University’s worldwide reputation.

PHILADELPHIA -- David L. Cohen, executive vice president of Comcast Corporation, has been nominated to become chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania effective Nov. 7, 2009, following the conclusion of the trustees’ fall meetings.The announcement was made by James S. Riepe, chairman of the Penn trustees. Riepe, senior advisor and retired vice chairman of T. Rowe Price Group, has been Penn’s board chair since 1999.

PHILADELPHIA — Shaun Harper, a researcher in the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, has been awarded the 2008 Early Career Award from the Association for the Study of Higher Education. The award is given to a recipient for a significant body of scholarship or a single extraordinary research achievement by a higher education scholar and in recognition of potential for future research.

PHILADELPHIA — A six-month citizen dialogue about regional arts and culture from the University of Pennsylvania’s Project for Civic Engagement will wrap up with “The Big Canvas Confab,” Saturday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Radisson Valley Forge Hotel and Convention Center in King of Prussia, Pa.
