PHILADELPHIA — A six-month citizen dialogue about regional arts and culture from the University of Pennsylvania’s Project for Civic Engagement will wrap up with “The Big Canvas Confab,” Saturday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Radisson Valley Forge Hotel and Convention Center in King of Prussia, Pa.

Pennsylvania’s first lady, U.S. District Judge Marjorie O. Rendell, will be the keynote speaker. “The Big Canvas Confab” will gather arts and civic leaders, elected officials and citizens to create a strategy to support arts and culture.

Organizers will share the ideas of 500 citizens from Southeastern Pennsylvania and ask participants to turn these ideas into meaningful action.

“Government budgets are tight and are getting even tighter,” said Harris Sokoloff, the director of the Penn Project for Civic Engagement and co-director of the Great Expectations project. “The Big Canvas will help identify strategies for preserving and enlarging the region’s arts and cultural assets.”

Great Expectations, of which “The Big Canvas” is a part, is a regional civic-dialogue project supported by major grants from the Lenfest and William Penn foundations with additional support from Penn and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
