Penn School of Medicine Teaching Awards Announced
PHILADELPHIA – Teaching awards for the 2009-2010 academic year have been announced by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.The honorees are:• Leonard Berwick Memorial Teaching Award -- Peter Crino and Bruce Sachais.

Faculty Members Receive 2010 Lindback and Provost’s Awards
PHILADELPHIA – Twelve University of Pennsylvania faculty members have been honored as recipients of the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Awards for Distinguished Teaching, Provost’s Awards for Teaching Excellence and Provost’s Awards for Distinguished Ph.D. Teaching and Mentoring.The Lindback Awards, presented to members of Penn’s standing faculty since 1961, recognize distinguished teaching at colleges and universities throughout the Mid-Atlantic service area of Abbotts Dairies Inc. Christian Lindback was president and principal of Abbott’s Dairies.

Sayre Health Center in West Philadelphia to Be Named in Honor of Late Penn Physician Bernett L. Johnson Jr.
MEDIA ADVISORY WHAT: A renaming ceremony for the Sayre Health Center, a full-service, primary care health facility at the rear of Sayre High School, 59th and Walnut streets, in honor of the late Bernett L. Johnson, who was a physician at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the founding co-chair of the center’s board of directors. A scholarship presentation in his honor to a Sayre High School graduate and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be followed by refreshments.

New Tissue-Hugging Implant Maps Heart Electrical Activity in Unprecedented Detail
PHILADELPHIA – A team of cardiologists, materials scientists, and bioengineers have created and tested a new type of implantable device for measuring the heart’s electrical output that they say is a vast improvement over current devices. The new device represents the first use of flexible silicon technology for a medical application.

Sayre Health Center in West Philadelphia to Be Named In Honor of Late Penn Physician Bernett L. Johnson Jr.
PHILADELPHIA –- Sayre Health Center is a full-service, primary care health facility at the rear of Sayre High School, 59th and Walnut streets, that has been serving the needs of residents of West Philadelphia since the fall of 2007. On Tuesday, March 30, the health center will become the Dr. Bernett L. Johnson Jr. Sayre Health Center in ceremonies designed to honor the vision and legacy of the man behind its founding.

Penn Study Shows Antidepressants Work Best for Severe Depression, Provide Little to No Benefit Otherwise
PHILADELPHIA –- A study of 30 years of antidepressant-drug treatment data published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that the benefit of antidepressant medication compared with placebo may be minimal or nonexistent in patients with mild or moderate symptoms. University of Pennsylvania researchers say, however, the benefit of medications is substantial for patients with very severe depression.

Penn Launches Web Site Tracking Research Funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania has launched a Web site to inform the public of scientific research funding it has received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the stimulus measure that has delivered the largest increase in basic funding in the history of federally funded scientific research: $21.5 billion.
