Penn Dental Medicine’s Lizeng Gao Wins 2015 IADR Innovation in Oral Care Award
Lizeng Gao, a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, has won a 2015 International Association for Dental Research Innovation in Oral Care Award. The prize is jointly sponsored by IADR and GlaxoSmithKline.

Penn Dental Medicine Team Shows Why Wound Healing Is Impaired in Diabetics
One of the most troubling complications of diabetes is its effect on wound healing. Roughly 15 percent of diabetics will suffer from a non-healing wound in their lifetime. In some cases, these open ulcers on the skin lead to amputations. For years, researchers have investigated the reasons for problems with wound healing in diabetics. And while many factors contribute, the specific molecular events responsible have remained unclear, and therapies to treat these stubborn wounds are few.

Penn-University of Florida Team Treats Pulmonary Hypertension Through the Leaves of Plants
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Florida have identified a drug that can be used to treat pulmonary hypertension, a disease for which few therapy options exist. The novelty is the way the medicine is delivered; it is grown in the leaves of plants from Penn’s high-tech greenhouse, according to the study published online in the September issue of the journal Hypertension.
